Phi Phi island is a amazing looking tropical gropu of islands. The Phi Phi Islands are an island group in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand. This island destination has long been a favourite with travellers because of the fabulous beaches, crystal clear waters and spectacular limestone landscapes. Scuba diving and snorkelling are the main attractions of the Phi Phi Islands, but the range of activities and accommodation has grown over the last few years.
Koh Phi Phi’s climate is tropical and warm throughout the year. The northeast monsoon from November into January is wonderful, with breezy clear days and fragrant cool nights. From February to May the breezes end, and the weather is at its best. From November to May, Phi Phi Island has 26 sunny days per month. The southwest monsoon, from late May to October, brings rain and winds to the west coast of southern Thailand, but there are still 20 sunny days per month. Most often it’s only a cool, late afternoon shower, but there can be rainy days on Koh Phi Phi. Seas can be quite rough during this season and swimmers should be careful.
The limestone cliffs of Koh-Phi Phi are stunning, and are definitely a secret worth exploring on the island. Providing panoramic views of the area, the rock climbs available here are advanced but worth the effort. Many reputable companies offer affordable climbs and use top-quality, trusted equipment. It’s recommended to try a climb in the later afternoon as the temperatures are much cooler. And if you’re not interested in taking your feet off the ground, why not hire a boat and view the cliffs from the water’s edge; they really are a magnificent spectacle worth seeing. Maya Bay is another wonderful beach, and has been a huge tourist attraction for Koh Phi Phi for years. The beach itself is mainly accessed by boats which can be caught for a reasonable. The shore of the bay was altered due to the movie, ‘The Beach’, in the 90’s and was changed considerably. However, despite a large lawsuit that ensued after the time of the land developments, the beach remains to be as gorgeous as ever, if not more- surrounded by steep cliffs and green vegetation. The water itself is safe, shallow and crystal clear. Another perfect spot for relaxing, snorkeling and swimming the bay. Cliff jumping in some area’s is also a popular activity, and a great source of fun. Maya Bay is one of the places Koh Phi Phi offers that you would be stupid not to visit.
Due to its popularity, often times, the beaches in Ao Lo Dalam look like a scene straight from Khao San Road. Our tip? Shake off the urge to stay in the first beach you see and instead, go exploring as Koh Phi Phi has loads of other gorgeous beaches. Here’s a list of our top spots where you can hunker down for a couple of hours and tan in peace. While some beaches are very remote and are best reached by either a long ass hike through jungles or a longtail boat, the end result is always worth it. On a side note, when you are going to venture off to unknown beaches, remember to bring a bottle of water, sunblock, and mosquito lotion.
Whether it’s on the Pileh Bay Lagoon, the Bamboo or Mosquito islands, or the other various sites at Ko Phi Phi Don, snorkeling is a unique experience that you must experience at least once. In Hat Yao, a beach in the south coast of Phi Phi Don, you can spot clown fish and black tipped sharks. It’s a 30-minute walk from Ton Sai, or you can take a long-tail boat for around 100 baht from Ton Sai pier. At Loh Samah Bay you’ll be able to see plenty of coral and reef fish such as the angel fish, while in Ao Toh Koh if you’re lucky you might even be able to swim with dolphins!
